Dr.Jaydeep is a seasoned Vitreo-retinal surgeon with keen interest in research and academic activities along with excellent organizational skills. Besides his clinical and surgical expertise, he is also a very kind hearted and compassionate human being who treats not only the patient’s eye, but also kindles their soul with his healing touch.
He has completed his medical graduation (M.B.B.S.) from Grant Medical College and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, Mumbai in 2004.
Following this, he underwent his post-graduation in Ophthalmology (DNB) at Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital Pvt. Ltd., Wadala from 2006 to 2009 under the world renowned vitreo-retinal surgeon, teacher and mentor Dr S Natarajan.
After finishing his post-graduation training, Dr Jaydeep underwent a two and a half years Research-cum-Clinical fellowship in Vitreo-retina at none other than the prestigious Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai from April 2010 to October 2012.
He has also completed certification exams of Fellow International Council of Ophthalmology (FICO, UK) and Fellow All India Collegium of Ophthalmology (FAICO, Retina and Vitreous).
After completing his Vitreo-retina fellowship, he joined as a Consultant at the parent institute. (Sri Bhagwan Mahavir Vitreo-retinal services, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai). There he was further trained by the then Head of Department, Dr Tarun Sharma, who taught him the nuances of vitreo-retinal surgery. He worked at Sankara Nethralaya for almost seven years which were filled with rich experience and learning from the most decorated vitreo-retinal department in the country. In mid-2019, he returned to Mumbai and joined his alma mater, Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, as Senior Consultant (Vitreo-retina) where he worked from June 2019 to February 2024.
To sum things up, with almost 15 years’ experience as an Ophthalmologist and 12 years as a trained Vitreo-retinal specialist, Dr Jaydeep has attained expertise in basic and complex vitreo-retinal surgeries and procedures. He is well versed in diagnosing and managing most of the vitreo-retinal diseases with confidence. He has performed more than five thousand vitreo-retinal surgeries independently. These include simple and complex rhegmatogenous retinal detachments, diabetic vitrectomies of all severities, macular hole surgeries, ocular trauma surgeries, posterior segment complications of anterior segment surgeries including scleral fixated IOL’s, paediatric retinal surgeries, ocular trauma, intra-vitreal injections, etc. He also have vast experience in managing Endophthalmitis cases of all complexities, Uveitis, Medical retinal diseases and diagnosing and managing inherited retinal disorders. He is trained in and has reasonable expertise in diagnosing and treating Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) of all severities. He is an expert in Retinal Lasers and related treatment modalities including PDT. He is also an excellent Cataract surgeon and extremely skilled in all types of cataract surgeries.
Besides his clinical skills, he has teaching experience of more than 15 years in which he has conducted numerous lectures, tutorials and hands-on training for in-house post-graduate ophthalmology trainees (DNB and DO post-graduate trainees), Medical and Surgical Vitreo-retinal fellows, Optometrists and external observers and fellows. He has also participated in many research projects, clinical trials and has been a part of more than twenty five peer review publications. He is a reviewer in peer reviewed scientific journals and has been part of institutional Ethics Committee in the past. He has presented numerous scientific papers/posters/videos at various National and International conferences and attended many more as a delegate as well as an invited faculty. He also has experience in organizing many scientific meetings and conferences.
